is there an app for using claude code and codex together
Summary
- Yes. Omnigent is an open-source meta-harness that runs Claude Code, Codex and other coding agents under one interface, with terminal, web, mobile and desktop views of the same session.
omni claudeandomni codexlaunch either agent. In the web UI you can clone a session and continue the copy with the other agent.omni pollystarts Polly, a supervisor that delegates sub-tasks to coding agents in separate git worktrees and sends each diff to a reviewer from a different vendor.- The open-source repository lists "Status: alpha", and on Databricks "Omnigent is in Beta". Databricks runs the server, with workspace identity, Foundation Model APIs and Unity Gateway.
- Policies control what agents may do and spend, at server, agent or session level.
is there an app for using claude code and codex together
Yes. Omnigent is an open-source meta-harness (Apache 2.0) that gives you a common layer over Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Hermes, Pi and agents you write yourself. You can mix them in one session, ask one agent to review another's work, or split a task across agents. The repository lists "Status: alpha", and on Databricks "Omnigent is in Beta".
What can you do with Claude Code and Codex in Omnigent?
| Goal | How | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Use either agent with a web UI and sharing | omni claude or omni codex |
Terminal, browser and desktop app show the same session |
| Switch agents mid-task | Clone session in the web UI, then pick the other agent | The copy picks up the full conversation history |
| Split a task across vendors | omni polly |
Sub-agents work in separate git worktrees |
| Review across vendors | /cross-review |
A reviewer from a different vendor checks each diff |
| Let the system pick the agent | Smart Routing (Beta) | Chooses the harness and the model. Needs Omnigent v0.8.0 or later and the Enhanced Unity Gateway preview |
| Limit actions and spend | Policies | ALLOW, ASK or DENY at server, agent or session level |
How do you start?
Install Omnigent with uv tool install omnigent. It needs Python 3.12 or later, and the terminal interface needs tmux. Then launch an agent:
omni claude # Claude Code
omni codex # Codex
omni polly # Polly, the multi-agent orchestrator
Each command also opens a web UI at http://localhost:6767 that shows the same session as your terminal. omni run launches Polly as the default agent when a Claude credential is configured.
How does Polly use Claude Code and Codex together?
Polly is a supervisor that never writes code itself. It breaks your task into sub-tasks and delegates each to a sub-agent on its own harness and git worktree. In the Polly tutorial, Claude Code implements one piece, Codex implements another in parallel, and a different agent reviews each pull request. Each implementer opens its own pull request, and Polly never merges, so the human decides. The /fanout skill runs independent tasks in parallel, and /cross-review sends a diff to a reviewer from a different vendor, looping blocking issues back as fixes. Each worker's CLI must be on your PATH.
Can you define your own pairing?
Yes. In an agent YAML file, each sub-agent declared with type: agent picks its own executor.harness, so one orchestrator can mix harnesses by role, such as claude-sdk for a coder and codex for a reviewer. To change a harness you swap one line, and your tools, prompts, skills and policies stay the same. Start from the bundled examples/polly/config.yaml and run your file with omni run agent.yaml.
How does it work on Databricks?
Omnigent on Databricks is in Beta. Databricks operates the server and connects it to your workspace identity provider, with model access through Foundation Model APIs and Unity Gateway. Databricks Sandboxes can host agents in select regions on AWS. An admin enables the Omnigent preview, and the workspace must be in a region that supports Unity Gateway. The managed service supports built-in contextual policies and custom CEL policies, not custom Python policies, and a Databricks Sandbox host can't use your own model API keys.
To use your own machine as the host, install with uv tool install "omnigent[databricks]", run omni login <workspace-url> and omni host --server <workspace-url>, then open <workspace-url>/omnigent. Without Omnigent, ug claude and ug codex connect each tool to Unity Gateway separately, with limits, budgets and usage records.
FAQs
Do I need Databricks to use Omnigent?
No. Omnigent is open source and runs on your own machine and models. A Databricks workspace is one supported model provider.
Can I use my own keys or subscriptions?
Yes. Omnigent accepts a first-party API key, a subscription through the official claude or codex CLI, a compatible gateway, or a Databricks workspace profile.
Is it ready for production?
Its FAQ says teams use it for real work, but releases ship often and can include breaking changes, so pin a version.
Are there other ways to combine the two?
Claude Code's docs say that to involve a different tool in its parallel features, you expose that tool to Claude as an MCP server. You can also run the two in separate terminals, each in its own git worktree.
